Name: Kazuto Kirigaya (alias 'Kirito'/'The Black Swordsman')Type of Bullet(s): Scortesia and Ministro
Age: 18
Aged Up?: Yes, a little
Canon: Sword Art Online (anime)
Brief In-Game History:
Kazuto did not join the Mendolia by choice. He was recruited - forcibly, you could say; certainly unwillingly. Born and raised in Japan together with his cousin by his grandfather, he spent a fair amount of time playing virtual reality games in his youth. It became an escape for him, as he distanced himself from his strict grandfather and a cousin who continually excelled at sports. One day, a promising new game known as Sword Art Online made headlines around Japan. It was the first virtual reality game of his kind and he was lucky enough to be enlisted as a beta tester before it was released to the public. He excelled at it, just as he had excelled at VR games before it. And when the first ten thousand copies of it were released to the general public, he was first amongst the many excited players to dive back into the virtual world.
But something went wrong. The game didn't go quite as planned: the game was not a game but a deadly battle for survival. Of course, he made it to the end after many gruelling battles, defeating the final boss using his considerable and deadly skill as a dual-swordsman, yet the victory was not at all as sweet as one might expect. Yes, he had completed the game. He had displayed his worth as a talented fighter, even more so because he had mostly eschewed the help of others and gone solo much of the way.
The game had been more than a game - it had been a secret recruitment scheme.
Kazuto had invested more than two years in Sword Art Online. The skills he'd developed made him the target of local crime syndicates who had been monitoring players' progress very closely. It was easy enough to kidnap him and physically train him in the virtual skills that had come so naturally to him.
After that, the incident with the perforare had almost been like an accident. Kazuto was, by the age of 17, and for all his stubborn resistance, expected to become an assassin for the yakuza group who had first abducted him. Kazuto's interference in a skirmish with some users of the strange white guns saw the men who usually guarded him killed, and himself captured (for a second time!) and taken to Sicily. The users' power had overwhelmed the Japanese men, who did not possess the ability to harness the bullets' powers. That changed soon enough, as the scientists of the Mendolia set about experimenting to see if he was a suitable user.
Predictably, he showed an affinity for the Scortesia bullets than any other, while the Ministro seemed to afford him some small measure of self-regeneration power. It was enough reason for the Mendolia to covet him and train him as their own hitman, despite the fact he knew very little English and even less Italian. That was okay though - there was no need to speak anyway. Not when you were paid to kill.
They call him 'Il Spadaccino Nero' now - the Black Swordsman. He kills efficiently and with few words, but he doesn't seem to enjoy his work. Whatever the reason for that is, it can't be denied that he is good at what he does.
Bullet Abilities:Affiliation: Mendolia. For now.
Kazuto prefers to use his sword (or swords) and abstain from firing a bullet at himself. But when he does, the Scortesio bullet greatly enhances his physical strength and allows him to withstand greater damage before succumbing to wounds. The bullet also tends to make him reckless, hence his dislike towards using it. A reckless swordsman is a careless swordsman. When combined with the effects of the Ministro bullet, he can become very difficult to beat. The Ministro bullet heals him slowly as time goes by, so minor cuts can fade into pale scratches in under a minute, while deeper gashes knit themselves in under half an hour. Still, like any human being, fatal injuries or bloodloss can lead to his death.
